The Dynamics of Coercive Control

SESSION 1:

AN OVERVIEW OF COERCIVE CONTROL

In this first session I will inform the programme attendants of my background and my purpose for undertaking this project. I will give a general overview of the characteristics of coercive control and the parallels between coercive control, cultic dynamics and brainwashing which creates the victim’s dependancy on the abuser.

Finally, there will be time for discussion, questions and answers for interaction and a poll to obtain an overview of the participants purpose for enrolling in this programme.

SESSION 2:

BEGINNING OF ENTRAPMENT AND DEPENDANCY ON THE PERPERTRATOR

In this session I will discuss the manner in which the abuser gradually isolates the future victim and the signs of control that are not easily detectable and ensures compliance.

There will be time for Question and Answer towards the end of the session and a poll for feedback.

SESSION 3:

COMMUNICATION AND USE OF LANGUAGE-VERBAL AND NON-VERBAL

In this session I will be building on the previous session by discussing the various types of communication, both verbal and non-verbal that the abuser uses to communicate with the victim and how the use of language gradually creates behavioural changes.

A picture begins to emerge of how the victim is becoming increasingly dependant on the abuser and the entrapment intensifies.

There will be time for discussion and Q and A towards the end of the session and a poll for feedback.

SESSION 4:

REDUCTION OF RESOURCES

In this session I will be discussing the various tactics that the abuser implements to reduce the victims resources-both tangible and intangible to increase the total control over the victims freedom of choice.

Within these tactics are the unpredictability of the abuser and the system to ensure that the victim has automatic compliance to the abusers demands

During this session we will be able to make the connections between the previous two sessions and build an increasing image of the victim and the impacts on their personal well being.

There will be time for discssion and Q and A towards the end of the sessions and a poll for feedback.

SESSION 5:

LEAVING AND THE AFTEREFFECTS ON THE VICTIM

We have explored over the various sessions the incremental manner in  which the victim becomes entrapped in this toxic relationship.

In this session I will be discussing the risks and challenges that the victim may encounter when they exit the relationship, the aftereffects on their wellbeing and the challenges of reintegration into normal life and recovery.

There will be time for discussion and Question and Answer towards the end of the session and a poll for feedback.

SESSION 6:

GENERAL REVIEW OF THE SESSIONS

This session will be a review of coercive control as covered throughout the programme. As this is the final session I would like this session to be more interactive with time for Questions and Answers.

There will be a final poll for feedback as this is the final session.
